BLACKFORD GALA WEEK
IN THE VILLAGE
BY THE VILLAGE
FOR THE VILLAGE
Blackford Gala has been running since 1977 and is a traditional village event.
The Blackford Gala is in June each year and comprises of various events and competitions which finishes with the Gala Day itself.
There is a procession which winds its way around the village with a pipe band leading the way followed by floats, decorated bikes, people in fancy dress and villagers enjoying the atmosphere. The procession starts at the Moray Institute and makes its way down Moray Street and then back along Stirling Street arriving at the Highland Games Park where the Gala Queen is crowned and the judging of the floats and fancy dress takes place followed by an afternoon of sports events for all villagers to take part in.
Blackford Gala Queen 2017 will be a girl in P6 or P7 with attendants in P4 or P5. The names of eligible girls at Blackford Primary School will be entered unless you tell us otherwise but the names and contacts details of all eligible girls who attend other schools should be handed in by parents or carers at the Duck Race (Sunday 2nd April), to a committee member or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. The Gala Queen fulfils duties during the 2017 Gala Week as well as at the Blackford Flower Show in September 2017, The Highland Games in 2018 (with attendants) and Blackford Gala Week 2018.
The 2017 Gala marks the 40th Anniversary of the Gala and events will be spread over two weeks culminating in Gala Day on Sunday 11th June. Find out more at the Blackford Gala Week page on Facebook.
