Blackford Gala

BLACKFORD GALA WEEK

Blackford Gala Week: In the village, by the village, for the village.

Blackford Gala has been running since 1977 and is a traditional village event normally starting in early June on the weekend after the Blackford Highland Games. The following week has various events such as concerts, treasure hunts, games, walks, bike rides, church service and more. The week finishes with Gala Day itself on the following Sunday.

Gala Day kicks off with a procession which winds its way around the village led by a pipe band then the Queens’ Float followed by other floats, decorated bikes, people in fancy dress and villagers enjoying the atmosphere.   The procession starts at the Moray Institute and makes its way down Moray Street and then back along Stirling Street arriving at the Highland Games Park where the Gala Queen is crowned and the judging of the floats and fancy dress takes place followed by an afternoon of sports events for all villagers to enjoy.

The current Blackford Gala Queen is Iona Shedden having been crowned in June 2018 having fulfilled duties during the Gala Week as well as at the Blackford Flower Show on the first Saturday of September. She and her attendants will be on duty at the Blackford Highland Games on the last Saturday in May 2019.

Blackford Gala Day 2019 will be Sunday 9th June with events in the Moray Institute, Bowling Club, Parish Church and around the village all week leading up to that.
