Blackford Gala

Blackford Gala Week: In the village, by the village, for the village.

Blackford Gala has been running since 1977 and is a traditional village event normally starting in early June on the weekend after the Blackford Highland Games. The following week has various events such as concerts, treasure hunts, games, walks, bike rides, church service and more. The week finishes with Gala Day itself on the following Sunday.

Gala Day kicks off with a procession which winds its way around the village led by a pipe band then the Queens’ Float followed by other floats, decorated bikes, people in fancy dress and villagers enjoying the atmosphere.   The procession starts at the Moray Institute and makes its way down Moray Street and then back along Stirling Street arriving at the Highland Games Park where the Gala Queen is crowned and the judging of the floats and fancy dress takes place followed by an afternoon of sports events for all villagers to enjoy.

Blackford Gala Queen 2018 is Iona Shedden supported by attendants Hannah Pearce and Abby Nicholls. The Gala Queen fulfils duties during the Gala Week as well as at the Blackford Flower Show on the first Saturday of September and The Blackford Highland Games on the last Saturday in May.
